Tayo Adesoji, the recently elected president of the National Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), has presented an ambitious plan to enhance and expand table tennis’s growth throughout Northern Nigeria, claiming that the area has been neglected for years in the sport’s national development. Adesoji stressed in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust that deliberate investment in regions with low table tennis participation is essential to the sport’s future in the nation. He believes that if more than half of the nation stays on the sidelines, the sport cannot become a national phenomenon.We want players from the north as well, thus a lot of money is being invested in the north since tennis is not simply a southern sport. You’re not doing well if more than half of Nigerians don’t participate in your sport. Thus, we must travel to the north,” he declared. According to Adesoji, the NTTF needs to work outside of indoor facilities, which are frequently lacking in many states, and increase its visibility in the area. He pointed out that private citizens should fund the nation’s table tennis infrastructure, which he defined as sustainable for long-term national growth.
