The PDP has criticized President Tinubu, stating that “defection shopping” will not benefit him in the 2027 elections.

Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), issued a warning to President Bola Tinubu on Channels Television, criticizing what he termed “defection shopping.” Ologunagba specifically reacted to the recent defection of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He cautioned that such political tactics would not guarantee the APC a victory in the 2027 general elections. According to him, the APC’s focus on attracting opposition members is a diversionary tactic to obscure its poor performance and inability to tackle Nigeria’s economic and governance issues. He asserted that the upcoming 2027 election is a contest “between the APC and the Nigerian people.” Ologunagba further accused the Tinubu administration of using these defections to shift public focus away from its shortcomings and urged the President to prioritize tolerance and inclusivity, noting that Nigeria’s democracy is built on pluralism and open expression.
