Only members of the immediate family have the legal right to nominate candidates for the open Awujale seat, according to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which is the direct descendants of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Alayeluwa Oba Theophilus Adenuga, also known as Folagbade. They have cautioned against the distortion of customs. While discussing the succession dispute to the sacred throne, they made this statement on Monday. They also called the recent allegations made by some distant relatives who purportedly represented themselves as members of the Fusengbuwa ruling house false and misleading.
According to BASEMEDIA, the Fusengbuwa ruling house is the next in line to succeed the late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the paramount ruler of Ijebu land and Awujale, who died on July 13 at the age of 91 after 65 years in power.
According to Prince Bamidele Adenuga, the family’s head and Oba Folagbade’s son, history and custom have always given the ruling house’s immediate family the authority to nominate candidates.
He maintained that the Chiefs Law of 1959 supported it and that it had been a generation-long practice.
According to Ijebu tradition, the ruling family with the authority to nominate candidates has always been the last king’s immediate family, he said.

Prince Adekunle Adenuga, the Secretary of the Ruling House, also spoke, emphasizing that only eligible male descendants are the sons and grandchildren of the previous monarch, and that the stool of Awujale has never been opened to distant relatives or extended kinship.
