Alhaji Sani Suleiman Muhammed, the Chief of Mutum Biyu Chiefdom in the Gassol local government area of Taraba State, has advocated for enhanced cooperation among established security agencies, vigilante groups, and local hunters to effectively address the challenges of insecurity within his domain and throughout the state.
Alhaji Sani made this appeal on Wednesday, immediately following the presentation of his letter of appointment as the National Patrol Officer of the National Vigilante Group.
Presenting the appointment on behalf of the Commander-General, Usman Jahun, the National Secretary, Yusuf Sarkin Baka, stated that the honor was a direct recognition of the monarch’s unwavering dedication to protecting the lives and property of his constituents. Sarkin Baka commended the Chief of Mutum Biyu for his proactive measures against banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal enterprises within the chiefdom, noting that his close partnership with security agencies, vigilante members, and hunters has successfully restored a measure of peace to an area previously troubled by criminal elements.
Expressing his appreciation for the National Vigilante Group’s acknowledgment of his contributions to peace and security, the monarch stated that the new appointment would serve as an inspiration to intensify his efforts in safeguarding his territory.
The monarch also extended high praise to all security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters for their role in maintaining stability across the state and the nation, while strongly emphasizing the necessity for increased synergy among them. He specifically urged security operatives: “Please do not consider the vigilantes and hunters as rivals. See them as partners working with you to address security challenges.”
Furthermore, he instructed all district and village heads within the chiefdom to diligently monitor the activities and movement of strangers and suspicious persons in their respective areas. He stressed the crucial responsibility of traditional rulers to ensure that remote and forested areas under their jurisdiction are not utilized as safe havens by criminals.
The monarch concluded by reiterating that sustained community safety and freedom from the menace of banditry and other crimes can only be achieved through collective vigilance and coordinated action among all security stakeholders.
