Raul Jimenez’s passionate reaction after scoring a goal for Mexico against South Africa in the opening World Cup match on Thursday has been explained by Arsenal star Thierry Henry.
Mexico defeated South Africa 2-0 thanks to goals from Jimenez and Julian Quinones.
Jimenez had previously recovered from a potentially fatal head fracture in 2020, and this match was his first World Cup.
The 62-year-old Wolves striker also lost his father three months ago.
Henry provided a very intimate account of the 35-year-old’s emotional response at Mexico City Stadium when speaking on Fox.
Why did he feel that way? Henry remarked, “Because I recall that everyone believed his career was over when he returned, but I’m sure he was thinking of his dad.”I believe he realized his father wasn’t watching him score in a World Cup at the Estadio Azteca as he was examining the boxes.
