The only person who can credibly confirm or deny whether lawmakers were bribed during the contentious third term bid under former President Olusegun Obasanjo is former Senate President Ken Nnamani, according to former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani. Sani made this claim in a post on X on Monday.
The former lawmaker pointed out that Nnamani, who oversaw the Senate at the time, is still the only person alive who has direct knowledge of what happened. According to him, Senator Ken Nnamani, the Senate President at the time, is the only reliable individual still living who can affirm or refute the claim that members of the National Assembly were “bribed” to change the constitution and permit Obasanjo to serve out “the third term.”
Sani’s remark coincides with Obasanjo’s recent denial that he was trying to win a third term.
Speaking at the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana, last week, the former president maintained that no Nigerian could demonstrate that he requested a term extension.
