Three stores and others in Oyo are destroyed by fire.

In Sango, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, at least three stores were destroyed by fire in the early hours of Friday.

According to reports, the incident started at 4:30 a.m. when an electrical spark from a plugged freezer ignited nearby combustible goods behind the Fart Oil filling station.

Before fire department authorities arrived, three of ten prefabricated stores were totally engulfed in flames, according to investigations conducted by PUNCH Online.

Freezers, drinks, and other commodities valued at several million naira were destroyed in the fire, despite the fact that no casualties were reported.

Yemi Akinyinka, the state general manager of the fire service, verified the occurrence to our correspondent in Ibadan when we reached out to him on Friday. “The emergency was reported through telephoning and CSP Adesina at precisely 04:41 hours on Friday, May 2, 2025, regarding shops on fire behind Fart Oil Filling Station, Sango, Ibadan,” he stated.

“The agency’s staff quickly arrived at the location of the incident, under the direction of ACFS Adedeji (Mrs. When they arrived, they found that three of the ten prefabricated stores in the row were well alight.

“We swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other shops, and the fire was completely extinguished.

“No casualty was recorded, the fire affected three shops, freezers and drinks. All the nearby shops and property worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the fire service.”

He added that preliminary investigations revealed the fire was caused by sparks from a freezer plugged in overnight and left unattended.
