Venerable Edwin Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna, has died while being held by kidnappers.
DAILY POST reported that Achi was abducted along with his wife and daughter when bandits invaded his home in the Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna, on October 28, 2025.
Reports indicated that the family had recently moved to the community when the kidnapping occurred.
Following the abduction, the criminals contacted the family and demanded a N600 million ransom.
Achi was from Umuaja in the Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement, the church confirmed his death and prayed for the safe release of his wife and daughter.
The church’s Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, announced the death of Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, with profound sorrow.
The statement confirmed, “Ven. Edwin Achi, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October, 2025, has been confirmed dead.”
The church called Achi’s death a painful loss for the entire Diocese and everyone who benefited from his service to God.
The clergyman’s wife and daughter remain captive, and the kidnappers have not lowered their ransom demand despite the priest’s death.
Nigeria is currently struggling with severe insecurity, which the United States government views as a potential genocide against Christians, particularly those in the northern region of the country.
