On Wednesday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State denied rumors that, as a result of recent coalition movements, the party’s structures will be transferred to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The PDP cautioned its members not to let uncertainty cloud their beliefs while urged them not to be influenced by the nation’s recent political events.
Following the transfer of its leaders to the ADC, the state’s PDP was said to have been reduced in size by the media on Tuesday.
During the coalition’s first meeting in the state, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, the coalition’s State Coordinator and a former member of the House of Representatives, revealed that two PDP candidates for governor and other stakeholders had joined the alliance.
The PDP emphasized that no alliance or coalition with any other political party or groups has been formed in the state in a statement that was jointly signed by prominent party leaders from various organs, including the National Executive Committee, the Board of Trustees, the State Assembly party leadership, and the 2024 gubernatorial candidate.
Party leaders Dr. Bode Olajumoke (life member, board of trustees), Dr. Eddy Olafeso (member of the board of trustees), Agboola Ajayi (2024 PDP governorship candidate), Debo Ologunagbo (national publicity secretary and NEC member), and Clement Faboyede (member of the national executive committee) are among those who signed the statement.
Other individuals include Bakkita Bello, PhD (Chairman, Caretaker Committee), Olajide Oguntodu (Minority Leader, Ondo State House of Assembly), Oluseye Olujimi (Secretary, Caretaker Committee), and Pastor Ladi Omotehinse (Chairman, Ondo State Forum of PDP LG Chairmen).
With PDP hinting that its future plans will be made public through its statutory organs in due course, it stated that the coalition was yet to define a clear ideological or people-centred direction which it maintained cannot replace “the tested deep-rooted structures and legacy of the PDP.”
The party also emphasized that “we must remind ourselves that the PDP is a movement of hope, democracy, and purposeful governance, not just a political party.”
“All the necessary preparations are in full swing for the next elections. We’re not going back. We’re not going to back down. We’re rebuilding.
“In Ondo State, the Party structures are still in place and functioning in all 203 wards and 18 local government areas. Our engagements, programs, and mobilization initiatives are still going strong.
