Kamaldeen Ajibade, the PDP’s national legal adviser, has cautioned that members who publicly identify as PDP but covertly support other political parties pose the biggest threat to the party.
Speaking on the Morning Show on Arise Television on Monday, Ajibade made the remark.
Ajibade responded that it would be incorrect to single out former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and the G5 group for the party’s 2023 electoral defeat.
He emphasized that the party has taken action to address issues of discipline and loyalty among its members, clarifying that the G5 crisis was not about a single person.
Ajibade went on to say that the PDP was trying to fortify its organization in preparation for upcoming elections by enforcing discipline and maintaining unity.
He stated: “I see that your question only touches on Wike’s problem and doesn’t mention anyone else.” It’s always beneficial, in my opinion, to approach this problem holistically rather than by focusing on Wike’s part. Wike was involved in the G5 element that everyone feels cost the party its chances in the 2023 election.
Wike was not the only member of the G5. Regarding discipline—or the lack of it—I can tell you that the party has taken the initiative to discipline each and every member. A member of a political party who is PDP during the day and somewhere else at night is the most hazardous.
We are aware of Wike’s stance, and he has publicly expressed it as plainly as possible. We’re working on the party’s self-checking behavior in terms of discipline.
