2023 presidential election: Wike identifies the factors that contributed to Tinubu’s Rivers victory

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained that President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 electoral victory in Rivers State was largely due to the support of the Ikwerre people. Speaking during a Christmas visit to Emohua and Ikwerre local government areas, Wike noted that the Ikwerre stock took a political risk by standing with Tinubu when his success was uncertain and provided the bulk of the winning votes. He criticized “new supporters” now pledging loyalty, stating that true commitment is shown during difficult times rather than when success is already assured. Wike emphasized that the South must be allowed to complete an eight-year tenure regardless of political party affiliations and urged continued support for the President’s success. He further asserted that the Southern region will determine its next political direction in 2031, after President Tinubu has finished his second term.
