Timi Frank, a former deputy national publicity secretary for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has warned coalition leaders from overthrowing President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and to stay committed to their objective.
He cautioned that if any region were to be excluded from the coalition’s presidential candidate selection process, the movement would ultimately fail.
In a statement released in Abuja on Monday, Frank said that Nigerians should not elect a president based on ethnic emotions, but rather one who is capable and caring and can assist restore the nation’s declining grandeur.
In order to achieve their goal of mobilizing opposition to win the 2027 presidential election, he advised coalition leaders not to be sidetracked by self-serving agitation.
“Nigeria needs a president who represents all Nigerians, not just those in the north or south.
“The president for 2027 might be from anywhere, perhaps the north or the south. Allow Nigerian voters to cast their ballots from the north, south, east, or west as they see fit.
“I oppose the argument that a Northern aspirant should not contest,” he continued. Let the candidate from the North run for president in 2027 if they will provide Nigerians with the kind of leader we want in our country.
“If there is a candidate from the South who will provide Nigerians with progressive governance, let them run, become a candidate, and win the presidency.” The South should exercise caution and immediately stop pushing for this alleged Southern president.
His remark coincides with the African Democratic Congress receiving support from the leaders of the opposition coalition, including former Senate President David Mark, former Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other political heavyweights, last Wednesday.
Nonetheless, Dumebi Kachikwu, the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, stated that the coalition’s goal is to facilitate Atiku’s rise to power.
