The Country Managing Director and Trade Commissioner of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Takashi Oku, at the weekend highlighted that more Japanese firms are working with Nigerian enterprises to better their operations and profitability. Oku, who talked with media during the opening of the JETRO Pavilion at the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair, revealed that nine new Japanese companies have recently formed agreements with Nigerian firms.He said that 47 Japanese businesses are taking part in this year’s exhibition, with 37 of them showing at the main pavilion and the remaining businesses at the Super Japan section, a brand-new initiative with an emphasis on entertainment. Oku pointed out that JETRO’s involvement in the trade show is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Speaking at the occasion, Suzuki Hideo, the Japanese ambassador to Nigeria, said that although many Japanese businesses in Nigeria are having financial difficulties and are having trouble turning a profit, they are nevertheless hopeful about their enterprises’ long-term prospects. Currently, there are roughly 52 Japanese businesses working in Nigeria in a variety of industries, such as export, distribution, and manufacturing.
