Ryan Taylor, a British boxer, has replied to criticism from Nigerians on a remark he made about his former partner, Florence Otedola, also known as DJ Cuppy.
Taylor’s Father’s Day celebration on Instagram on Sunday sparked the issue.
He posted a picture of himself with his daughter and expressed his wish to have mixed-race kids in order to combat racism.
A social media user commented on his child’s resemblance to his ex-partner, DJ Cuppy, which led to Taylor throwing a shade at the disc jockey player.
He said, “She wasn’t enough of a woman to even fathom creating such a beautiful creation like mine. Please leave me and don’t come back.”
Taylor’s remark on his ex-fiancée has since then reportedly drawn backlash.
Reacting to the backlash that followed, Taylor noted that Nigerians are targeting him and his current partner.
Taylor asserted that since he had never signed a contract restricting his freedom of expression, he was free to speak whatever he wanted.
“Today is a special day,” he said. Nigerians, please calm down. You’re after my child’s mother and you think I won’t support it? Don’t cry when I talk and come on my page to talk trash. The contract was never signed by me. I’ll always speak my mind and act in a way that benefits my family or myself. I haven’t said anything yet, so everyone should relax.
