As tensions between Israel and Iran rise, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the emergency evacuation of Nigerians who are stuck in both countries.
This was revealed in a statement released Thursday in Abuja by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Yusuf Tuggar.
The statement follows the ministry’s repeated appeals for an end to the violence, which is currently in its seventh day, as part of initiatives to advance peace between the two countries.
Tuggar said the government was completing plans for the emergency evacuation of Nigerians trapped in Iran and Israel in response to the deteriorating situation.
He asked all impacted Nigerians to follow the required security procedures and get in touch with the closest Nigerian foreign embassy for registration and other guidance.
The minister praised the diplomatic missions of Nigeria in Tehran and Tel Aviv for their efforts to connect with the Nigerian community during the challenging time.
Tuggar declared, “The government is still dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all its citizens, both domestically and internationally.”
In order to guarantee adequate coordination for the prompt and safe evacuation of Nigerians in impacted areas, he continued, the government was collaborating closely with pertinent foreign partners and local authorities.
Similarly, the government reiterated its demand for an early end to the fighting and asked all sides to engage in discussion, adhere to international humanitarian law, and put civilian protection first.
Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s longtime commitment to regional and international peace and stability as well as the nation’s strong support for peaceful conflict resolution.
