Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has addressed some of the assertions made by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in a recent interview.
During his recent appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Wike made a number of claims, including that he hailed from a wealthy family and went to school while driving his own vehicle. He made this statement while adamant that he was not from the same background as Chibuike Amaechi, his former boss.
Additionally, Wike asserted that Rotimi Amaechi’s wife, Dame Judith, was receiving N4 million every month to train Rivers women. If Amaechi’s wife is not indicted in the forensic audit report on the Niger Delta Development Commission, or NDDC, Wike has threatened to step out.
In response to Wike’s assertions, Amaechi ally Eze, who frequently represents the former Transportation Minister, said Wike ridiculed himself by only presenting lies about his prior exposure to the public.
According to him, Wike, who used to work as Amaechi’s errand boy, has now rejected everyone who helped him escape the extreme poverty that ruled his family.
Eze questioned whether Wike was the one who appointed himself as Amaechi’s chief of staff, chairman of the local government, and then proposed himself as a minister under the Jonathan administration.
“Trying to claim how rich his father was when poverty that radiated his family was as strong as the direct ray of sun, is denying his background,” Eze said in a statement he signed and made available to reporters at the weekend.
“His father, if alive, would be disappointed in his act of self-denial to justify his lavish living with public funds. Not minding that his father disowned him because of his character and if not for his friend’s father who assisted him by paying his school fees, Nigerians would have been spared of having such a charlatan in public service
“In his futile attempt to castigate Amaechi’s wife who had genuine dealings with the NDDC, one is forced to ask whether Wike’s wife is fit for the exalted position of a Judge which she holds given that sleeping daily in the same room and on the same bed with a character like Wike will definitely affect her sense of judgement in the delivery of justice. The business of Court is a noble one and the background of a Judge shapes his/her sense of judgement.”
Eze was held accountable. According to Amaechi, the previous governor of Rivers committed the biggest mistake of his political career when he met Wike, helped him become the chairman of the local government, appointed him as his chief of staff, and suggested that he be appointed as a minister.
Wike’s greatest legacy as governor is the devastation of all significant initiatives and policies put in place by the Amaechi administration to benefit Rivers State and its citizens. Wike destroyed the agricultural infrastructure that would have addressed the current food crisis affecting Nigerians, as well as the educational system and scholarship program that Amaechi had established to turn Rivers State into a center for human growth.
