Ian Rush, a Liverpool legend, has given reasons why he failed to attend late forward Diogo Jota’s burial despite being invited.
Last Thursday, Jota and his biological brother Andre passed away in a car accident in Spain.
They were laid to rest at the weekend in Gondomar, Portugal, following the tragic incident.
A number of football celebrities, including members of the Portugal national team and Liverpool, came to honor Jota.
But Rush wrote on Instagram: “Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre.”
“My brother Gerald passed away last week, but I was invited and had planned to attend Diogo’s burial. The news about Diogo broke while I was assisting with Gerald’s burial.
I simply couldn’t make it because it’s been such a tough time.
Diogo and his brother, André Silva, were both killed in this tragic accident. We are quite sad for them both.
