After the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) found that the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Commission (ASOPADEC) had too many employees, Abia State Governor Alex Otti declared that his administration would not fire the employees.
Instead, the governor oversaw the agency’s reorganization, emphasizing that employees found to be overworked could be transferred to other government departments but not fired.
This was said by Otti on Sunday when he welcomed Mrs. Nkechi Otti, the Federal Commissioner for Abia State at the RMAFC, who accompanied a few Commission officials in delivering reports on findings following her recent familiarization visit and stakeholder engagements in Abia State.
“I will further engage with ASOPADEC to understand their problem,” he stated. In actuality, we do not wish to force people into the labor market.
“Some kind of reformation was what I had directed. Instead of placing them in the unemployment line, they might be directed somewhere else if there is excess capacity.
“The Head of Service ought to attend this conference as well. In order for us to examine the headcount and determine how to send certain individuals to other locations, it should be completed as soon as tomorrow.
He gave her his word that RMAFC and the Abia State administration will always work together.
During her statement, Mrs. Oti praised the governor for the accomplishments of his administration and stated that she was in Abia on a familiarization visit to various government departments and stakeholders.
She enumerated the findings of her team, which included the necessity for community participation with oil-producing regions and the problem of overstaffing in ASOPADEC.
