Due to alleged constitutional violations, Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and other parties from running in the general elections of 2027.
On Monday, while rendering a decision in a lawsuit brought by a number of the nation’s former lawmakers, Justice Lifu issued the directive.
According to the ruling, Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president and ADC presidential candidate, has no platform to run on in the upcoming presidential election.
In a similar vein, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is scheduled to run for reelection on the Accord Party platform on August 15, has been disqualified.
The Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators filed the lawsuit, designated FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a number of political parties, including the ADC, Action Alliance, APP, Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party.
