In two sets, Botic van de Zandschulp eliminated qualifier Harry Wendelken from Queen’s Club in London with a highlight reel tweener lob.
After losing in the first round of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Van de Zandschulp, now ranked 56th, was paired with Wendelken in his final warm-up match prior to Wimbledon.
With seven victories and seventeen unforced errors in the first set, the Dutchman’s performance was erratic. Up until the 12th and last game, when Van de Zandschulp broke the Englishman on love to win the set, Wendelken and Van de Zandschulp held each other in check.
In the second set, Van de Zandschulp adopted a more kamikaze style of tennis, as the Dutchman and Briton engaged in a fierce battle with fifteen break points. Van de Zandschulp achieved an incredible 25 victories and 31 unforced errors, the greatest of which came late in the second set when the Dutchman hit a flawless tweener lob.

Wendelken surged to a 5-2 tiebreak lead and nearly forced a third and deciding set after the two were unable to escape each other in the last moments of the second set. Van de Zandschulp, however, rallied and won the final five points to seal the victory 6-4, 7-5 (5).
Van de Zandschulp will take on the victor of the Queen’s second round clash between “lucky loser” Zachary Svajda and eighth seed Tommy Paul.
