Philipsen is forced to leave the Tour de France due to a high-speed fall.

Following a horrific high-speed fall on Monday, Jasper Philipsen, the winner of the Tour de France’s opening stage, was forced to withdraw from the 21-day competition.

Other riders swerved in front of Philipsen during a 70 kph rush while he and the other fast men were competing in an intermediate sprint 60 kilometers from the stage three finish line in Dunkirk.

The Belgian’s teammates stopped to help him, but were soon told by the Alpecin team to continue on their way as they realised the extent of the 27-year-old’s injuries
