The results of the recently concluded re-run and bye-elections, which were held in 12 states across the country on Saturday, came as a shock to the coalition of opposition leaders and their supporters.
The opposition leaders, who want to remove President Bola Tinubu in 2027, entered the election through the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to gauge their support, according to a BASEMEDIAA NEWS report prior to the election.
Before the election, Senator David Mark, the ADC’s acting national chairman, urged Nigerians, especially those who were eligible to vote, to back the party’s nominees for every open seat.
In a similar vein, prominent members of the coalition, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, actively supported ADC candidates in Anambra, Kaduna, Edo, and other states.
But according to BASEMEDIA NEWS, the majority of seats were won by the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
In addition, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) saw some success, but the ADC got no seats.
