According to Shehu Mohammed, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC, one of the main causes of traffic accidents in Nigeria is human error.

He also added that most drivers lack the necessary and sufficient training to drive in a country with a large population like Nigeria.Numerous factors contribute to traffic accidents. In response to a question about how the FRSC is specifically addressing these issues, particularly with regard to compliance and enforcement, he added:
Naturally, we have been making every effort to ensure that enforcement, training, and staff retention to be able to sensitize, you know, conduct public education, because if we can successfully execute public education, instructing people on what to do, how to follow traffic laws and regulations, how to use the road safely, and how to instill a culture of safe driving, I believe we can do it right now.
When it comes to infrastructure, funding, and even the use of technology, the government is doing well.
More technology is being used by FRSC to power our procedures and carry out enforcement. More sensitization is what we need. The mixed-loading is currently the primary problem.
When people and passengers use trucks, animals, and goods to move from one place to another, this is known as mixed-loading. There are always a number of people killed in crashes.
Therefore, the primary concern at this time is our ability to keep educating the public about how to use these roads safely and to follow traffic laws and regulations.
