During an operation along Lema-Daban, Lema road in the state’s Edu Local Government Area, soldiers from the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi, Kwara State, killed one bandit and retrieved an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle.
Early on Wednesday morning, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base, FOB, Patigi, in the state’s Patigi Local Government Area, conducted an ambush in the Lema-Daban area at around 12:10 a.m., and then made contact with the criminals from the ambush site.
The criminals were forced to flee in confusion as the soldiers’ superior firepower overpowered them in the ensuing gunfight.
“Troops of 22 Armoured Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Patigi, in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on fighting patrol within Gbugbu general area have continued to sustain pressure on criminal elements, recording a major success in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 September 2025,” said Captain Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi, in an Ilorin statement.
Following reliable human intelligence on the movement of armed bandits along the Lema-Daban Lema road in the Edu LGA of Kwara State, the vigilant troops conducted an ambush at approximately 12:10 a.m. and then made contact with the criminals from the ambush site.
The criminals were forced to retreat in confusion as the soldiers’ superior firepower overpowered them in the ensuing gunfight. The troops killed one bandit during a follow-up exploitation along the bandits’ escape route. One AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine filled with thirty rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle are among the items found during the operation.
The remains of the defeated bandits have since been turned over to the proper authorities for additional action, Captain Stephen revealed.
Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, commended the gallant troops’ alertness, fortitude, and determination and urged them to keep up the fight against the enemy.
