In addition to expressing sorrow over the passing of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike promised that those responsible for her murder would be apprehended and prosecuted.
Wike called the incident “tragic and painful” in a statement released on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
That such a beautiful soul could be taken in its prime hurts me. It’s depressing! In addition to the Arise News family, the Nigerian media and the country at large are also grieving over Somtochukwu’s passing, the minister stated.
He promised that security personnel had started their investigations and would do everything in their power to find out what caused her death. Wike continued, “The police will investigate the circumstances of her death and hold those accountable.”
At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Somtochukwu was taken to Maitama General Hospital dead, according to Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary on Health for the FCT Administration.
She affirmed that the police would receive a preliminary medical report to help with their investigation.
Wike offered his condolences to the deceased’s family and friends in addition to expressing his sympathy to the Arise News staff and management, particularly its chairman, Prince Nduka Obaigbena.
He prayed that God, in His boundless mercy, would take her soul and grant her friends, family, and associates the strength to deal with this irreversible loss.
