Former federal lawmaker for Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Ben Murray-Bruce, has announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated this on Wednesday via a signed statement on his Facebook page. In his statement, he highly praised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that Nigeria now has a President who genuinely understands finance and views the economy as a “living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe.” Murray-Bruce acknowledged the difficulty of the current reforms but argued they are essential for future prosperity, leading to a free-market economy.
He further lauded several aspects of the current administration, including the improved national safety architecture, the stabilization efforts of the professionally steered Central Bank, restored foreign policy respect, and the deregulation of fuel supply, which he says will eliminate future fuel scarcity. He also commended Tinubu’s “unprecedented” infrastructural drive. While recognizing the current hardship faced by many families, he asserted that “reform is never painless” and that nations are reborn in moments of sacrifice. He explicitly stated he is joining the APC “not for politics, but for progress,” because he believes Tinubu’s “courage and intellect” will deliver the Nigeria of their dreams. He predicted “phenomenal growth” for Nigeria within Tinubu’s full eight-year term. His defection follows the earlier reported move by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, who also switched from the PDP to the APC along with his cabinet and local government officials.
