According to Prof. Omowumi Iledare, an Emeritus Professor of Petroleum Economics, Africa’s energy destiny must be characterized by equality, prosperity, and pragmatism rather than imitation. Speaking at the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics’ (NAEE) 2025 Annual International Conference in Abuja, Prof. Iledare cautioned that Africa’s energy future cannot be a replica of Europe’s past but rather needs to become a model of pragmatic prosperity that places a premium on intergenerational equity, affordable access, and industrial competitiveness.Speaking on the topic of “Emerging Geopolitics of the Energy Landscape — Navigating Global Shifts and Their Impacts on Developing Economies,” during the conference, “The world’s most vibrant and intellectually respected community bridging the energy-economy-environment nexus,” according to Professor Iledare, is the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE). He underlined that the Association’s goal is still to increase knowledge of energy economics via thorough research, fruitful discussion, and expert cooperation.
