The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Plateau State chapter, has denied any involvement by Fulani herders in the violent attacks that resulted in 13 deaths in the Heipang and Fan districts of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Tuesday night.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) had alleged in a statement that armed Fulani militias from the Fass and Werre-Jong areas launched the simultaneous attacks on Rachas and Rawuru villages.
However, MACBAN State Chairman Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo dismissed these claims as false and baseless, stating that security agencies are still investigating and have not yet indicted any herders. Babayo described the BYM’s accusation as a “routine” and unfounded tactic deployed without proper investigation or evidence.
Babayo argued that Fulani communities in Plateau have frequently been victims of similar unsubstantiated allegations, which have led to their members suffering persistent attacks, killings, and cattle rustling. He highlighted the severe difficulties facing herders, claiming they have lost over 500 cattle to killings and rustling since June 2025 alone, citing specific incidents in the Fan District throughout June, September, and October. He confirmed that all these attacks against herders have been reported to the relevant security agencies.
In conclusion, MACBAN condemned all violence and challenged the BYM to provide proof for its claims. Babayo urged security agencies to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of the Barkin Ladi violence and called on the Fulani community to remain calm, law-abiding, and allow the security forces to handle the investigation.
