The Lagos State Government clarified the recent arrest of a woman by LAGESC/KAI officials in Lekki Phase 1 for cooking on a road median. According to the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, the woman’s actions, despite her claim of performing a charitable exercise, violated established state environmental and sanitation laws regarding the use of public spaces. The government emphasized that while it supports philanthropic activities, these initiatives must strictly comply with regulations to ensure public safety, hygiene, and orderliness. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab’s ministry reaffirmed that using public infrastructure like road medians for personal, commercial, or social purposes is strictly prohibited because it endangers lives, damages facilities, and impedes traffic. The enforcement, which involved the arrest and equipment confiscation, was part of the ongoing #KeepLagosClean and #ZeroToleranceLagos initiatives aimed at maintaining the city’s functionality and visual appeal.
