The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has designated former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to lead its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to a statement released by ECOWAS, the election is scheduled for October 25, 2025, and the observation mission will be deployed from October 19 to 29, 2025, aligning with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
As the Head of Mission, Osinbajo will lead a delegation of prominent West Africans. Their mandate is to engage with important national stakeholders to promote a peaceful and credible electoral process. Additionally, the team will work alongside international and domestic observer groups to evaluate how the polls are conducted.
The regional body stated that deploying this mission emphasizes ECOWAS’s commitment to fostering peace, stability, and trustworthy elections throughout West Africa. This election in Côte d’Ivoire is particularly significant for the region, as several member states are preparing for crucial national polls amidst ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic governance.
