Government Ekpemupolo, who holds the title Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw nation and is widely known as Tompolo, has publicly refuted recent social media reports. These reports alleged that he issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government regarding the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement released on Sunday in Warri by his Media Consultant, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo’s camp clarified that he neither authored the publication in question nor has any involvement with the matter concerning Nnamdi Kanu.
The statement explicitly labeled the report as the work of “Tompolo’s enemies,” whose goal is to “discredit and pull him down” because of his strong opposition to illicit crude oil activities in the Niger Delta area.
Tompolo’s consultant asserted that this opposing group “has failed and will continue to fail,” affirming that Tompolo is resolute in his commitment to completely eliminating illegal oil operations in the region.
The statement concluded with a pledge of loyalty, assuring the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that Tompolo stands with him and will continue to support his administration’s “renewed agenda.”
This denial comes amidst recent news reports, including one from BASEMEDIA, that human rights activist Omoyele Sowore recently led a protest in Abuja calling for Kanu’s immediate release. Furthermore, the Federal High Court in Abuja had adjourned Kanu’s terrorism trial until Monday, October 27, to allow him to present his defense.
