Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), echoed the call of the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, by urging Nigerians on Tuesday to demand greater accountability from their state governors.
Okechukwu argued that governors have been the primary financial beneficiaries of the fuel subsidy removal, yet many citizens are still dealing with widespread poverty, local insecurity, and major infrastructure gaps, despite states receiving unprecedented increases from the Federal Allocation Accounts Committee (FAAC).
Citing historical subsidy expenditure figures to emphasize the scale of the savings now benefiting states, the APC chieftain insisted that the “blame game” must cease to focus solely on the Federal Government. He stated that the call is a reminder that accountability must “cascade downwards,” especially since President Tinubu has shown commitment through major reforms. Okechukwu specifically targeted APC governors, noting they form the majority, to take up the challenge of development.
