The political temperature in Osun State is rising as the PDP and APC are trading strong words over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent screening in Abuja ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Governor Adeleke and top PDP officials attended the closed-door screening, after which the Governor declared his administration has delivered good governance and is confident his “unrivalled records and popularity” guarantee an overwhelming re-election victory with the backing of the people.
However, the opposition APC swiftly dismissed the screening as “face-saving.” The APC claimed the move was only necessary because Adeleke allegedly failed in his attempt to defect to the opposition party—an accusation the PDP denies.
The APC then unleashed a barrage of criticism, accusing Adeleke of running a “shallow and mediocre” government marked by “misgovernance, vengeance, and wastage.” Specifically, they alleged over ₦60 billion was spent on the Governor’s Office in 35 months without hiring a single teacher, that the administration has neglected education, and that citizens were “duped” under a teacher recruitment scheme.
The APC stated Adeleke’s re-election bid is “doomed” because the people have already “screened him out” based on his performance. They asserted that the screening was a smokescreen to cover the embarrassment of their rejection and urged the Governor to start preparing his handover note for 2026.
