Mahdi Shehu, a public affairs commentator, has criticized Donald Trump, the President of the United States, because of his recent remarks about protecting Christians in Nigeria, calling the statement two-faced.
In a post that was shared on X on Monday night, Shehu said that Trump has not succeeded in protecting Christians within his own nation, where gun violence takes the lives of hundreds every week, yet he says he intends to defend Christians in Nigeria from abuse.
“Trump is completely unable to save 70 Christians who are killed daily directly under his notice in the United States, yet he claims he wishes to protect Christians in Nigeria from mistreatment.”
Citing the Bible, Shehu wrote: “Physicians, cure yourself.”
According to his statement, recorded figures demonstrate that 125 individuals in the US are killed by gun violence every day. 327 people are shot daily, 117 are killed in the event, and 210 survive with different levels of gunshot wounds.
He also referred to statistics from the Everytown Research Journal, pointing out that an average of 45,738 people are killed annually by gun violence in the U.S., most of whom are Christians killed not by terrorists but by their own fellow citizens.
According to his view, Trump has been wrongly convinced of a narrative about Nigeria that is only one-sided.
He said that: “Trump has been wrongly convinced of a single-sided narrative and believed that story to be the absolute truth and wants to shed the blood of both innocent and guilty Nigerians to gain cheap and free mineral resources.”
