Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool player, has praised Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka, calling the Swiss player the Premier League’s best acquisition of the year. On Monday night, the Black Cats and Everton battled to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League. Xhaka scored right after halftime to negate Iliman Ndiaye’s outstanding opening goal for the visitors at the Stadium of Light. The former Switzerland and Arsenal midfielder had a Man of the Match performance. Carragher called the former Bayer Leverkusen player the season’s best acquisition prior to the start of Monday night’s game. Carragher stated on Sky Sports that “he must be the signing of the season.”I’ve been referring to Manchester City as the Erling Haaland team when I think of someone who has a significant impact on their team, but is there anyone in the Premier League at the moment who has a greater impact on their team than Granit Xhaka? It isn’t possible. “A truly outstanding acquisition thus far.” The Liverpool star said, “I thought Granit Xhaka was absolutely fantastic again,” after the final whistle. “Not only the goal, but they are far ahead of practically everyone else on that field tonight.” Before relocating to Germany to play for Leverkusen, Xhaka, 33, played 297 games for Arsenal from 2016–23. Under Xabi Alonso, he helped the Bundesliga team win the championship.
