The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has requested that the Sokoto State Government include traditional rulers in the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage.
This appeal was made on Sunday during a Town Hall meeting organized by the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, held before the submission of the state’s proposed 2026 budget. The Sultan was represented by the District Head of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Cigari-Alhassan.
The meeting also included input from representatives of groups for persons with disabilities, women’s organizations, and civil society groups, who raised issues such as water supply, school furniture, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
Dr. Abubakar Zayyana, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to broaden consultations regarding the upcoming 2026 budget proposal.
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, assured all attendees that budget funds would continue to be allocated to projects in religious institutions, education, water, and healthcare. He also noted ongoing efforts to enhance electricity supply, school facilities, and child welfare programs.
