The Maga community in Kebbi State’s Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area is scheduled to hold a special prayer session on Friday seeking divine help for the safe return of 25 abducted schoolgirls.
The District Head of Maga, Muhammad Sanid Dantani, confirmed this, stating that the community is deeply traumatized and sees prayer as its strongest tool while rescue efforts continue.
The abduction happened early Monday when armed bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga. The attack resulted in the death of the school’s Vice Principal, Malami Hassan Yakubu Makuku, the kidnapping of 25 students, and injuries to others.
This incident is part of a disturbing pattern of mass kidnappings targeting northern Nigerian schools. Maga residents have been holding nightly gatherings to support the affected families and urge faster rescue operations. The special Friday prayer session, which will include leaders and residents, will also focus on peace and security in the region.
Governor Nasir Idris visited the community and assured parents that the state government is collaborating with security agencies to secure the girls’ release.
