The University of Ilorin has officially begun its 50th-anniversary celebrations with a “vibrant Anniversary Walk.”
The event was flagged off on Monday at the Main Gate by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, who noted the impressive turnout of staff, students, alumni, and friends as an affirmation of their commitment to the institution.
According to a statement by spokesman Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor explained that the golden jubilee celebration aims to highlight the University’s impact and achievements over the past five decades, while also reaffirming its readiness for future innovations.
Prof. Egbewole emphasized that the walk also symbolizes the University’s strong bond with its host community, affirming the institution’s active role in the socio-economic development of Ilorin and Kwara State.
The Anniversary Walk is set to climax with a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, an action the Vice Chancellor described as symbolic due to the Emirate’s significant role in the University’s evolution since its inception.
