The Yobe State Police Command has expressed serious concern about the increasing number of grave desecration cases in the state.
The most recent incident took place in Potiskum, where the Divisional Police Headquarters received an urgent call from residents reporting that unknown individuals had entered the Nahuta graveyard, dug up a child’s grave, and fled with the corpse.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, voiced deep alarm over this troubling, emerging trend.
It was recalled that a similar grave desecration incident occurred earlier this month in Jakusko LGA, where the search for suspects is still active.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Emmanuel Ado, strongly denounced these “heinous and barbaric acts,” calling them wicked and intolerable.
The statement noted, “The CP has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify surveillance, strengthen patrols around cemeteries, and ensure the swift arrest of the perpetrators.”
The Police Commissioner also urged the public to stay alert and assist the Police by providing trustworthy information that could help capture those responsible for these crimes.
