The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, stated that Nigeria’s failure to adopt modern technology to fight crime is directly causing widespread insecurity, which has forced some border communities to make agreements with bandits.
Hosting members of the Kano chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel on Tuesday, Comrade Gwarzo noted that criminals are using sophisticated methods to outmaneuver security forces, creating a critical technology gap.
He expressed deep concern over the high level of fear across the country, which makes citizens uncertain about safe travel and daily security. Gwarzo specifically revealed that “Some communities at the borders of Kano have even entered accords with bandits, allowing attacks to occur undetected.”
He called on journalists nationwide to highlight these issues and push the government toward effective action, stating that confronting these challenges is a collective responsibility.
