The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, refuted a viral social media claim that he stated security operations in Zamfara State “would not work without him.”
In a Thursday statement, Matawalle called the report false, emphasizing that he never made that comment.
He explained that while he has previously voiced concern about Zamfara’s security situation, he did not give any interview suggesting that current military or security efforts rely on his participation.
He said the publication misrepresented his viewpoint and could cause needless tension.
The minister, a former Zamfara State governor, clarified that his previous statements focused on the necessity of cooperation among federal authorities, state governments, and security agencies to achieve long-term success against banditry.
He asserted that collaboration among all stakeholders is vital for resolving insecurity.
Matawalle also warned against irresponsible communication regarding security, stating that false reports could hinder government operations or confuse the public.
He urged media organizations to confirm information before publishing, noting that accuracy is essential when reporting on national security issues.
The minister reaffirmed his support for the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to restore peace in Zamfara and other affected regions, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to improving security across the country.
