Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris-Wase, alleged that recruitment lists for the Nigerian Army and Police Force once included members of Boko Haram and other criminals.
Wase, who represents Wase federal constituency in Plateau State and leads the North Central Caucus, disclosed this during a special plenary session on national security yesterday. He cautioned that this infiltration poses a threat to the nation’s security system.
Wase stated, “My brother, former chairman of defence, and my very good friend, will bear me witness. There were moments in time when, in the process of recruitment, Boko Haram members’ names were found in the list. Other criminals, armed robbers and gangs were found in the list of the Nigerian Army and the police.”
He urged politicians who recommend candidates for security positions to ensure those individuals have integrity, warning that admitting criminals jeopardizes national security.
Wase also revealed that the North Central zone accounts for 52% of the country’s insecurity. To emphasize his point, he shared that he personally lost a brother, a cousin, and a nephew in terrorist attacks.
