Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Bode George has commented on the recent exit of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke from the party, calling it a “desperate survival move.”
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, George acknowledged that the internal crisis within the PDP likely forced Adeleke’s hasty departure, but he still described the event as a troubling development. He suggested that the lack of clarity regarding the leadership of the various party factions probably contributed to the governor’s desperation.
The elder statesman also addressed broader national issues, specifically urging President Bola Tinubu to caution the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in order to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy. George argued that any unchecked abuse of power undermines national cohesion.
He cited the recent disruption at the PDP Secretariat on November 18 as a serious warning. He stressed that the actions of a group previously expelled for anti-party activities—actions allegedly encouraged by a serving Federal Minister—constitute an unacceptable assault on the democratic order. George warned that their attempt to prevent a duly elected leadership from taking office is not only unlawful but poses a threat to the future of multi-party democracy in Nigeria.
George concluded his statement by asserting his position as a life member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), stating that anyone wishing to leave the party is free to do so, adding that “A political party, like a tree, grows stronger when unhealthy branches fall away.”
