Insecurity: Act quickly before things get out of hand, Kwankwaso warns. The Nigerian Government

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) 2023 presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has called upon the Federal Government to quickly address the nation’s escalating insecurity before the situation becomes unmanageable.

In a verified post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Kwankwaso expressed his profound worry regarding the state of national affairs due to recent developments. The former Kano State governor also criticized the Federal Government, stating it appears overwhelmed, which is clear from its quiet approval for state governments to create and use vigilante security groups with minimal or zero professional instruction.

He argued that this approach, despite good intentions, has unintentionally accelerated the widespread increase of small arms and light weapons throughout the country.

“Having served in the system for years, I know that the main duty for dealing with the rising insecurity in Nigeria belongs to the Federal Government, working with state and local governments, and other important groups,” he stated. “Most troubling, people are now taking advantage of this by forming their own armed groups, as demonstrated by the actions of certain political actors. Such behavior further endangers the delicate peace in our nation,” he added.

The former senator also offered congratulations to General Christopher Musa (ret.) on becoming the Minister of Defence. He expressed his belief that the General has the capability and background to greatly improve the nation’s security and stability, provided he receives the required political support and resolve.
