The Joint Health Sector Unions, known as JOHESU, have announced plans to obstruct access to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare this Wednesday to demand action on their grievances. This move follows a nationwide strike initiated on November 15, 2025, by JOHESU and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations, sparked by what they characterize as a long-term disregard for essential labor issues. The organizations expressed frustration over the government’s refusal to adopt the revised Consolidated Health Salary Structure and its failure to resolve ongoing welfare and operational problems within the healthcare system. JOHESU serves as a collective for various labor groups, such as the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria and several unions representing allied health, research, and academic staff. Martin Egbanubi, the National Secretary of JOHESU, confirmed that personnel from various medical facilities have already gathered at the ministry for the protest. He noted that although two meetings have taken place with government officials since the strike began, no progress has been made, and the government has yet to offer any tangible solutions.
