Lethargic Arsenal is eliminated from the FA Cup

Southampton of the English Championship defeated Arsenal 2-1 with a late goal, eliminating the Gunners in the quarterfinals of the English FA Cup.

Southampton effectively capitalized with a goal in each half to maintain the English Premier League leaders’ dismal record at the end of the season, as Mikel Arteta’s team controlled possession but was sluggish for the majority of the game.

After a mistake by Ben White, Ross Stewart’s well-placed goal in minute thirty-five gave Southampton the lead at their St. Mary’s stadium. Viktor Gyokores, a striker, equalized for the visitors 68 minutes into the match after Kai Havertz’s ball was converted.

Five minutes into the game, Shea Charles scored the game-winning goal with a low shot into the bottom far corner for 2-1 as the Gunners continued to produce half-chances but faltered in defense.
