Fulani farmers in Osun State have denied supporting a candidate ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
The farmers, representing the Osun Fulani Farmers Unity Forum, denounced online allegations as incorrect and deceptive.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the forum’s President, Alhaji Saheed Meiburuji, stated that the supposed support did not represent the Fulani population in the state.
He claimed that individuals or groups claiming to support a political candidate on behalf of the Fulani people were not recognized.
“The Fulani community in Osun State has not yet endorsed any political party or candidate,” the statement stated.
The meeting also stated that any political activity involving the Fulani must adhere to established traditional practices and recognized leadership structures.
It explained that such processes involve meetings with community authority such as the Seriki, Ardos, and other chieftaincy institutions.

The forum further mentioned that it keeps a database of Fulani populations throughout the state, with an estimated population of approximately 30,000 individuals dispersed throughout all local government regions.
It called on the general public, political players, and the media to respect due process and the integrity of Fulani traditional institutions, as well as to confirm information before sharing it.
