Sunday Garba Biggs, a former Permanent Secretary of the Plateau State Government House Administration, has announced his intention to run for the state’s governorship after leaving the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Simon Lalong, a former governor and senator from the Plateau South Senatorial Zone, is close to Biggs, who ran for the APC gubernatorial ticket in 2023.
Biggs formally announced his intention to leave the APC in writing on April 21, 2026.
He announced his intention to run for governor yesterday at the PDP office in Mangu, where party supporters were gathered in large numbers, in a letter of resignation to APC Chairman Mangu Ward II in Mangu LGA, where he is from.
The current governor, Caleb Mutfwang, is also from Mangu.
Biggs emphasised that “godfathersim” or positions do not ensure victory in the governorship election, as anyone who knows the history of Plateau politics will understand. He gave the populace his word that the PDP would overcome its difficulties and regain control of the state in 2027.
“We can’t afford to stay in this situation. The time has come for a new course that puts our people’s welfare first, fortifies our institutions, and opens doors for everyone, he declared.
