Segun Odunuga, the new captain of Ikeja Golf Club, has promised to make the course playable year-round so that players can play in any weather.
This was said by Odunuga, who was elected last month together with his management committee, as he revealed his plans for the 2026–2027 golf season.
During his debut speech at the clubhouse in Ikeja, he presented his blueprint and emphasized his dedication to making the club one of the friendliest and most playable in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond. We are here mostly to play golf. We want the course to be playable throughout the year, including in the rainy and dry seasons. We want Ikeja Golf Club to have beautiful fairways and greens, even though Dubai is a hybrid area. Making the course playable year-round is our first priority,” he stated.
I hope that by the end of our term, we will have accomplished our goals and that Ikeja’s fairways are the greatest and most playable in Nigeria. Ikeja Golf Club is already praised for its friendliness and hospitality. With God’s blessing, we hope to make it the friendliest club on Africa’s west coast, throughout Africa, and worldwide.
Speaking about upcoming initiatives for the executive year, Odunuga emphasized plans to build solar-powered inverter systems to minimize energy costs by about 70% and to finish current capital projects, such as the driving range.
He continued, “We also plan to light up the course for throngs of golfers, improving both aesthetics and security.”
Odunuga mentioned that the club would have a packed schedule of events all year long.This is the first-ever competition. In addition to hosting the ICAN 60th anniversary, we had a birthday cat. We want to play games against other clubs and hold our medal tournaments each month. After entertaining them the previous year, we will be visiting Tema Golf Club in Ghana in August. In addition, clubs from Abeokuta and Ibadan will be invited to compete at Python Golf Club in Port Harcourt.
“We have a number of events scheduled, including the club championship early in the upcoming year. Next month, match play contests for singles and doubles will start. We’re going to have a busy year.
Odunuga thanked the members for their support and reassured them that the committee will fulfill its commitments.
“The members have been incredibly supportive, and I promise that we won’t let them down. I anticipate that members will ask, “Can you do another term?” by the time we depart. We shall accomplish our objectives with their help.
Trophies and gifts were given to the winners of the Management Committee Inaugural Kitty.
The ultimate winner, Babatunde Ojo, was awarded a Hisense bedside refrigerator and a trophy. Bidemi Babatunde Ojo received a trophy and a rechargeable solar standing fan for placing second.
Mojeed Aberugba won a golf bag and a N50,000 gift card as the second runner-up. Idowu Akinyemi and Nike Saliu, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, were given N40,000 and N30,000 coupons.
Wale Odunlami was named the veteran winner, and Uche Ubakanma won the women’s division.
