Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, Executive Director of Development Specs Academy, claims that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s defection is part of a plot to divide Southern votes in the upcoming general elections.
Ikechukwu stated this during a guest appearance on Arise Television on Thursday.
He was responding to Makinde’s defection to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and his subsequent announcement that he was running for party president.
A plot to divide votes in the South is behind Makinde’s defection to the APM. Before we discuss whether it is a multi-party system, there is one important point to consider.
“That problem is the PDP’s complete demise. You can’t tell which is the PDP at the moment due to the extreme factionalization.
“It is clear that the PDP will not be a national force, regardless of whether Makinde decides to travel to the moon and back or whether FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his team decide to use all available resources for the election.
They might not field a candidate for 2027 and won’t have much of an impact. And if they do choose a candidate, it will be to divide the votes,” he stated.
